BHA Confirms Updates to October Jump Racing Programme
The BHA has announced schedule adjustments for October Jump fixtures due to dry weather, affecting meetings at Chepstow, Ludlow, Worcester, and Ffos Las.
- A new fixture has been added at Worcester on 7 October to replace the abandoned Ludlow meeting.
- The Welsh Racing Festival at Chepstow and the fixture at Hereford will transition to all-Hurdle cards.
- Worcester on 12 October and Ffos Las on 14 October will host all-Chase cards to ensure better ground conditions.
The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) has announced a series of strategic changes to the upcoming Jump racing programme to mitigate the impact of sustained dry weather. Following expert assessment, the fixture at Ludlow on 7 October has been abandoned as the track remains unraceable. To provide an alternative, an additional meeting will be staged at Worcester on the same date. Further adjustments have been made to ensure racing takes place on the best ground available. The Welsh Racing Festival at Chepstow, scheduled for 9 to 11 October, and the Hereford meeting on 13 October will now exclusively feature Hurdle races. Conversely, the chase programmes originally slated for these dates have been moved to Worcester on 12 October and Ffos Las on 14 October, where the ground is better suited for chasing. BHA Head of Racing and Betting, Tom Byrne, acknowledged that these are significant changes but emphasised their necessity to maintain a viable jumping programme. Course operators and the BHA have worked closely to manage these challenges caused by the lack of rainfall across the country. Racecourses, including Chepstow, have faced immense difficulty in preparing ground despite extensive irrigation efforts. While these decisions are disappointing for the affected venues and participants, the BHA continues to monitor the situation proactively. Further updates regarding the programme are expected on a weekly basis as the sport navigates ongoing environmental challenges.
