The Jockey Club has officially announced the appointment of Andrew Morris as its new Racing and Industry Relations Director. Morris, who currently serves as the Director of Racing and Training Grounds at the Newmarket and Lambourn hub, will step into the new role as Richard Norris prepares to leave the organisation next month after an impressive 22-year tenure. Since joining The Jockey Club in 2023, Morris has been a key figure in regional operations, but his career journey has been extensive. A graduate of the British Horseracing Authority’s Graduate Development Programme, he previously held senior positions at Chester Race Company for over a decade. His international experience is equally significant, having spent time working in Singapore and Dubai, in addition to serving as Racing Manager at Moonee Valley Race Club in Australia, where he oversaw the delivery of the prestigious Cox Plate.
In his new capacity, Morris will lead the racing department, managing essential functions such as prize money and fixture planning, while simultaneously spearheading industry and stakeholder engagement. Reflecting on his new appointment, Morris highlighted the importance of the current climate for British racing and expressed his gratitude to the Newmarket team for their support. Jim Mullen, Group Chief Executive at The Jockey Club, noted that Morris’s diverse background in the UK and abroad makes him an ideal candidate to drive participant engagement while maintaining excellence across the race programme. With the transition now underway, The Jockey Club has confirmed that the search for a new Director of Racing and Training Grounds for the Newmarket and Lambourn hub has commenced.
